Crest Lane Orchard is a relatively small certified organic orchard close to Kaitaia in the Far North of New Zealand.
In 2006 we, Jan Arie Kamsteeg and Ineke Post, took over the orchard, which has been certified organic for more than 15 years. Since then the property was certified by Organic Farm New Zealand under number 1282. Due to pressure from some of our customers, we felt it necessary to move from OFNZ to BioGro certification. As of December 2016 our property is certified by BioGro as being in the second year of conversion (C2). From the 1st of July 2017 onwards we hope to be fully certified by Biogro under number 5693. We still have a good relationship with our group of Far North Organic Growers and Producers Society, who manage the certification for Organic Farm NZ, so we stay on as supporting members.
From the beginning we have supplied the Kaitaia market and organic wholesalers in Auckland. However, since 2011 most of our fruit goes into fruit boxes. Our fruit boxes go to individual customers, shops and co-operatives, transported throughout New Zealand by Fastway Couriers and Toll Transport.
As growers, we make every effort to supply fresh fruit directly to customers at a competitive prices.
All of our fruit is tree ripened. We do a weekly pick of only the best mature fruit. This limits the availability, and therefore we work on a first ordered first served basis.
Before the fruit is sent to our customers, it passed over our custom made fruit-washing machine to remove any superficial dirt. We only use fresh water and do not wax the fruit.
